[Headline. "Victim gets revenge on rapist by setting him on fire"]
Well, he was sorta asking for it, dressing in such flammable clothing.
if he didnt want to get set on fire, he should have stayed indoors
He must have been drinking alcohol. That stuff is flammable. Of course it was going to happen when booze was involved.
I bet he acted like he wanted to be set on fire. I mean can you blame someone for doing it if he was acting like that? Boys will be boys…
LOVE the comments ^^^^^^^^^
you know, sure, he was saying “no don’t set me on fire, i do not want to catch fire”
but really, i’m pretty sure he wanted it

This is not fun. This is not a joke. Y’all laugh and make fun of him for getting killed and y’all support the girl for setting someone on fire but this is not justice. No one normal would set someone on fire, she’s obviously mentally ill probably made insane from being raped. This “kill your rapist” thing that people seem to be supporting on tumblr is terrible for many reasons.
1.) Responding to a violent crime with a violent crime is not something to be happy about. When someone commits such a violent crime such as setting someone on fire, there is something wrong.
2.) This woman is not ok. Setting a man on fire is a sign of something terribly wrong with her. She needs therapeutic help.
3.) Killing the accused is not how we do things in western society. I’m not saying that he was not a rapist I’m saying that we don’t kill people for their crimes, especially without a trial. If someone is accused of a crime they deserve a trial. Don’t get me wrong, rapists are the scum of the Earth, but when we don’t give people a fair trial, or we execute them that is going against the very things that America and other western societies are built on. Rules like no cruel and unusual punishments are put in danger by the “kill your rapist” people.
Fair warning: this is going to be a very long post.
This isn’t a story about Western society. I looked at your page and the first thing I saw was you telling other people to do their research, which is strange because this is obviously not advice you take yourself. It would have taken you mere seconds to google this headline and find the story yourself, but you were so eager to defend rapists you didn’t have a moment to devote to fact checking.
"…we don’t kill people for their crimes, especially without a trial." There is a contradiction in this very sentence. You know there is, because you added "especially without a trial". So you’re well aware that you do kill people for their crimes. And sometimes for crimes they very likely didn’t commit. And there is quite often a pattern as to who is killed, and who gets harsher sentences in general. Let’s not forget that your drone strikes frequently kill civilians. The idea that a country built on genocide and slavery has always cared about fairness is laughable. The idea that this is an ideal you actually uphold (instead of one you merely claim to) is patently ridiculous. The implication that you’re morally superior and just more advanced than non Western nations is ignorant and racist.
I wonder where your concern about cruel and unusual punishment and fair trials is when it comes to Guantanamo. But I suppose it doesn’t really count when most of that unfairness is borne by Black and brown folks, right?
How many people have you heard of actually killing their rapist? You’re so against “kill your rapist” being said supposedly out of concern for “fairness”, but how much of a problem is it, really? And if I humor you and pretend this is an actual problem, why would you focus on an expression of anger and hurt, and not what the cause of it? Why aren’t you complaining about how victims are too afraid to report (image description for pic at link), how when they do report they’re doubted and judged and blamed, how rapists often receive sympathy and ridiculously lenient sentences? Why aren’t you outraged about the presence of people like this in that Western “justice” system you’re so proud of?
But again, that’s not an actual thing that really happens. And on the rare occasions it does, it’s hardly likely to be motivated by people venting on tumblr, and it certainly isn’t supported enough to somehow threaten “cruel and unusual punishment” laws - especially since they only apply to setting punishments within the legal system anyway! By your logic, rapists are just as much of a danger (more of one, actually, as “kill your rapist” couldn’t be said if there were no rapists) to those laws, seeing as quite a number of them rape as punishment and out of anger. And yet you didn’t bother to comment on their role here.
You’ve claimed that the woman is “obviously mentally ill, probably made ins*ne from being raped.” In less than a sentence you have managed to do so many things! You’ve managed to imply that anyone who disagrees with you and doesn’t actually feel like rapists matter all that much is crazy, and therefore not worth listening to. You’ve managed to reinforce the idea that mentally ill people are just more violent, which is a disablist myth that’s used to perpetuate and excuse violence against them. You’ve managed to support the idea that mentally ill people’s opinions and feelings do not matter. And you have the nerve to pretend you’re just concerned, even though you’re using “mentally ill” as shorthand for “obviously wrong and bad” when it comes to the victims, but also an excuse when you want to let rapists off the hook.
You’re right about one thing, though. This isn’t justice. For one thing, it doesn’t undo the rape. For another, she’s been charged with murder. And as if that’s not enough, some White Feminist is happily using her experience to be racist, disablist, and to defend her rapist!
You don’t get to claim to be for rape victims and for "all women" when all you do is talk over the brown ones who aren’t impressed with your ignorant White nonsense, throw survivors, mentally ill women, and especially mentally ill survivors under the bus, and spend more of your time defending rapists than their victims. You are absolutely disgusting, and I sincerely hope that not a day goes by that you don’t run face first into a cactus.
